Valuable sponge info...

Before using your sea sponge, you’ll want to run it under warm water to soften.  Sea sponges are naturally stiff when dry, but very soft when wet.  Inspect for any coral, shells, or sea debris.  Our sponges are carefully processed and cleaned, but we recommend that you check them yourself before the first use.

Extending the life of your wonderful sponge.: Soak a bathing sea sponge for 15 minutes every few weeks in 1 cup of warm water and 1 Tablespoon of baking soda (increase solution accordingly for large sponges). Then rinse and let dry.  This will thoroughly clean your sponge; baking soda revitalizes its cell structure for increased durability/life.

Sea sponges naturally inhibit the growth of bacteria, but do not prevent it.  To disinfect your sponge, you can also soak it in one of these options:

~  1/4 cup of hydrogen peroxide and 1 cup of water.  This will clean and re-bleach the sponge if it becomes discolored from use.

~  A few drops of tea tree essential oil in 1 cup of warm water.  Tea tree essential oil is a very effective germicide and will also eliminate any odor on your sponge.

~  1 Tablespoon apple cider vinegar or white vinegar in 1 cup of warm water.

~  1 teaspoon colloidal silver in 1 cup of warm water.  There is no pathogenic organism known that is not killed by colloidal silver in 6 minutes or less.

Never place a sea sponge in boiling water, microwave, or dryer.  This will harden your sponge.  Never use strong bleach.  This will weaken your sponge.  Squeeze but do not twist or pull your sponge.

If a sponge starts to become ragged, use scissors to trim off the loose pieces rather than pulling them off.  Trimming the sponge to keep it smooth will enable you to get more use out of it.

Notice a red-orange tint on the bottom of your sponge? All sponges from the sea are rich in sea minerals that your body loves, including sodium, magnesium, calcium, potassium, iron, zinc, and so much more! Some sponges, but not all, will have sea mineral coloration as a result.  Consider it an extra bonus of wholesome sea mineral goodness!
